When baby boomers are hitting retirement, they’re not all ready to settle down or pack up for the retirement home. Studies have shown that most of the baby boomer generation is retiring earlier than 65. This also means that they are ready for a more active retirement.

So what can you do if you’re a baby boomer looking for an active retirement? The best first step is to plan and it’s never too early to start planning. If you’re already retired, it’s not too late for you either.

You do not have to resolve to have a sedentary lifestyle once you are retired. Instead, you can create a plan to keep yourself as active as possible in your retirement. Studies have also shown that this is both good for the body and the mind.

When you are more active, you will remain in a healthier condition. It can help you prevent many health conditions that affect people of retirement age. It will also help you keep a healthy peace of mind. When your mind is healthy, you will feel better, act better, and do everything better.

Keeping active can be one of the most important things you do in your retirement and baby boomers are looking to keep it fun and lively. So here are some tips that may help you when it comes to looking for activities to keep you busy.

Here are some plans to have a more active retirement:

•    Think about what you want to do or what is interesting to you
•    Set some time frames for when you want to complete these things
•    Create a realistic plan to reach these goals
•    Put a realistic budget for your activities (weekly, monthly, annually)
•    Do research into what opportunities are available to you

You may decide to go on vacation with your family, your spouse or even on a getaway alone. You could travel to an exotic beach or a bustling city in another country. You may decide to travel across the country in an RV and experience all that there is to see along the way.

Maybe you want to take up a new sport or activity to keep you occupied and in shape. You could train for marathons or join an adult team or league of some type. It’s all about finding something that’s right for you and that makes you happy. Then you can enjoy retirement without lying down.

Remember that you don’t have to wait until you have left your job to plan for your retirement. There is no better time than now to start planning. The sooner you plan, the better it can be for you in your active retirement.
